St. Nicholas sailed in the Trogir shipyard and gave presents to thousands of children!

This was a magical day, just like in the fairy tales. Crowds of children poured towards the main gate where they were welcomed by the organizers. Visibly excited, the children hurried towards the outfitting quay where the arrival of St. Nicholas and his escort was expected. Having arived at the location where the programme was held, the children were fascinated with the decorated stage, which the shipyard employees set up and decorated solely for this occasion. They were greeted from the stage by actors from the Trogir amateur theatre, and cheerful songs were heard from the loudspeaker, while angels in white suits walked up and down and stopped and looked around on to open sea, all in order to announce the happy news to the children as soon as possible. The children suddenly started to cheer and shout happily because on a large vessel, that was approaching the bank, they recognised St. Nicholas, and behind him, in a smaller boat, hopped his unavoidable escort – the Krampus, with many sticks in his arms. There was no end to their happyness as St. Nicholas waved to them from a distance, visibly leaning on one side because his bags of gifts were obviously too heavy. Landing ashore, he got on board of a carriage that was drawn by horses and that led him to the stage, from where he addressed the children with warm words. He untied his bags and with the aid of his assistants he started to hand out sweets. Toddlers happily extended their hands and took candy, little bars of chocolate and biscuits that they were given. In one moment, their attention was occupied by many silver confetti scattered all over the sky. They did not know what to do first, accept the gifts or catch waving small sheets of paper. Their joy peaked. When St. Nicholas gave presents to all the present children, he had to say goodbye and go away because other children waited for him in some other place. Besides the shipyard workers, representatives from the association Rašpinjute from Trogir and the Trogir amateur theatre also contributed to this big event, and it was an unforgettable experience, as they all say!!!
