A Sculpture for shipyard workers

"Sail peacefully
along the celestial sea,
because your souls
are forever interwoven
into our ships."

The famous Trogir artist Vilim Halbarth has two exhibitions entitled “World for Us” dedicated to dockyard workers behind him. He finds his inspiration in the shipyard itself, as well as in shipyard materials. He uses waste from the shipyard, pipes, metal and puts them into wholes that become new sculptures. Vilim shapes a prettier world with a more cheerful perspective.
A sculpture, in which Halbarth tried to unite the shipyard and the people who dedicated their life to it, has been exhibited in the area of the shipyard recently.

“I wanted the sculpture to be maximally simple and to have a sacral element. The modernity was achieved with very simple lines, the dedication was obtained with the peace dominant here, while the sacral element was realized with crosses whose purpose is to create a play of light and shadow. The shape itself reminds of the ship’s bow tied to the shipyard, evoking the shape used to make wooden chapels in the area, which means the shape of one-nave churches, chapels, also the shape of the ship itself. I have tried to unite all that, and the sculpture is dedicated to all the people who spent, stayed, or gave their contribution in the creation of the State and this company”, said Halbarth.

He also announced the third part of the exhibition “World for Us” in March next year in the gallery Galic in Split, which will round up his story about the shipyard.
