Shipyard Trogir at the 2nd Business Fair

Under the organization of the Croatian Employment Bureau (HZZ) Regional Service in Split and in cooperation with local partners, the Second Annual Business Fair of Split-Dalmatia County, called "Win on Wednesday!", was held on Monday, 2 March 2009 at the Hotel Alkar in Sinj.

Sponsors of the fair included Split-Dalmatia County, the Cities of Sinj, Trilj and Vrlik; and the districts of Otok, Hrvaca, Dugopolje and Dicmo. The main goal of the fair was to bring together in one place all relevant institutions in the labor market and to enable better harmonization of supply and demand by strengthening partnerships for employment and in that way to participate in the development of the regional economy. The exhibitors included employers, educational institutions, and partners. The Head of the County, Ante Sanader, opened the fair.

Also in attendance were Ankica Paun Jaralah, Director of the Croatian Employment Bureau and her assistants, Miroslav Delic and Frane Suste; the Mayor of Sinj, Dr.  Ivan Nasic;  the heads of other cities and districts in the Cetina region; businessmen, and academic institutions.  Opening the fair, Mr. Sanader invited employers to take advantage of the employment stimulus resources of the county budget. Ms. Jaralah called this fair, which was organized by the HZZ Regional Service in Split, a positive example and emphasized that these kinds of meetings between employers and job seekers, in which employers receive job applications and workers can learn about job openings, should be cultivated and developed.

According to information provided by Miroslav Delic, Chief of the HZZ Regional Service in Split, the first business fair last year resulted in 1,700 offers from unemployed people to employers. More than 1,000 of them found a job.  Delic pointed out that the Cetina region is a major source of manpower for the county and beyond, especially for seasonal employment in tourism, which was the main theme of a roundtable discussion.

"A large number of students from the Cetina region who have finished elementary and secondary school have visited the fair. That is the goal – that students become interested in what today's labor market is seeking – and in terms of selecting a professional occupation, in making the right choice. At the end of February 2009 there were 32,000 thousand unemployed people in our county, which is six percent less than this time last year.  The only concern is a reduced demand for workers, but the tourist season is drawing near, and this should change," Delic stated.
