On the island of Ciovo, in the bay of Saldun, next to the walls of Trogir, the old town protected by UNESCO, the Shipyard Trogir is situated.
From its origin, in the second century B.C., city of Trogir was a trading centre at this part of the Adriatic Sea and an intersection of merchant ships. The necessity either for repair of existing ships or for construction of new ships appeared at the very beginning upon its foundation, what was registered in ancient records. Tradition of construction and repair has continued till nowadays. On the grounds of one of numerous shipyards for construction of wooden ships, the Shipyard Trogir has arisen, situated within the area of cca 170 000m2, only 25 km distant from Split, the biggest town in the Croatian part of the Adriatic Sea, and only 4 km distant from the Split Airport, thus ensuring excellent connections with all parts over the world.
The Shipyard Trogir is composed of two main parts, i.e. SHIPBUILDING and SHIP REPAIRING YARD .
Shipbuilding and Ship repairing yard make one of the oldest industry branches within the Croatian part of the Adriatic Sea, the records thereof were found already in the 13th century.Ship repairing yard has been dating from the 19th century.
