Unidentified Vessel Detected Alongside Dock Aft

An unidentified vessel berthed to the aft of the big Dock 15 stirred suspicion in the workers, which turned out to be justified after an anonymous telephone call was received, informing the security guard of the Kairos security d.o.o. company that the vessel carried onboard an explosive device which, if activated, could cause injuries to the employees at work in the dock, as well as major material damage. Immediately after having received the call, the security guard informed the port facility security officer and the Occupational Health and Safety Department manager. The news soon spread to all the persons responsible for the implementation of security measures and actions. The evacuation of workers from the vessel and the docks began immediately, all the power sources on the pier and the docks were switched off, the vessels of the Harbourmaster's Branch Office Trogir and the Maritime Police were positioned to guard the seaward approach and, in the meantime, the Anti-Explosion Protection Department team also arrived and deactivated the device in a very short time. The action was successfully completed, human lives were in no moment endangered, tangible property was preserved and the safety level was restored to normal.
Fortunately, the threat was not real, but a simulation of the incident scenario of the twelfth operational exercise which was conducted today by affiliated safety authorities in Brodotrogir, which also functioned as the operational headquarters. Attending on behalf of the authorities were the representatives of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia – the Maritime and Airport Police Department and of the Trogir Police Station, the representatives of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia – the navigation safety inspectors from the Harbourmaster's Office Split and the Harbourmaster's Branch Office Trogir, the manager of the 112 County Centre in Split, the manager of the Occupational Health and Safety Department of Brodotrogir d.d., the Fire Protection Department manager, the port facility security officer, the newbuilding manager, the SCT d.o.o. Production Facility manager and the security guards of the Kairos security d.o.o. company.
The exercise was conducted with the aim of ensuring the efficient application of the provisions of the Port Facility Security Plan and checking the operation of the system of management in emergency situations and the general level of preparedness of all the envisaged participants. It was also important to reassess the coordination and information flow rate between the external and internal subjects responsible for port security, as well as the proper functioning and efficiency of port security devices and equipment.
We wish to thank all the participants of this operational exercise for completing it successfully and rapidly.
